The Daisy Appeal 2006

Supporting the work of The Wessex Cancer Trust

It's a sad fact that more than one in three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. Cancer isn't one disease but many; all have some similar features, but each also has a distinctive character that varies according to the cancer's type and location. Many people have had their lives touched and know the devastation it can cause, either through personal experience or through that of a close relative or friend.

The Wessex Cancer Trust is a charity which supports many aspects of cancer care for adults and children in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.

The BBC Daisy Appeal is committed to raising money for three major projects on behalf of the Wessex Cancer Trust.

A gamma camera for Southampton General Hospital

This piece of equipment enables doctors to map the patient’s body and provide more direct cancer treatment where it is needed.

A chalet for respite holidays

This is specially designed for cancer patients and their families within the BBC Radio Solent region.

A new chemotherapy unit

This is to be located at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

How you can help support this worthy cause

We are sure that many of you have experienced at first hand the loss a member of your family or a close friend who has been affected by cancer. One of our parishioners, Margaret Handley, who lost her husband to this wicked disease in November 2005, is trying to raise money on behalf of the Daisy Appeal. To find out how you can help, please telephone her on 01329-288963.
