Good Friday

According to the Christian calendar, this is the Friday before Easter, and marks the first day when Jesus was crucified on the cross.

Good Friday is generally regarded as a day of mourning in the Christian calendar, when Christians remember the suffering and death that Jesus suffered for us upon the cross.

It is a time to reflect upon the last seven words that Jesus spoke while dying upon the cross. These are

• "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing."
• "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
• "Woman, here is your son….Here is your mother"
• "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"
• "I am thirsty"
• "It is finished"
• "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit"

In our own Parish, we observe the Stations of the Cross (the key moments of Good Friday), usually in prayer and reflection on Jesus's walk through the streets, His death on Mount Calvary, through to His burial in the stone cave.
