Here are some of the comments from some of those who attended the weekend:-

The weekend I have just spent in Bournemouth with members of the congregations of St John the Evangelist and Holy Trinity with St Columba has left me with a feeling of spiritual stimulation with which to start the new week. I had the opportunity to meet people from the other churches and also to become more deeply acquainted with members of my own church family. This was especially so during the small group discussions we had following the teaching and exploration we had just been enjoying, when we really did open our hearts to one another.

‘Let’s go for adultery then, it’s much more fun!” was the quiz-busting answer of an esteemed member of Holy Trinity Church on the Saturday evening. But the answer was wrong, of course, so he got his comeuppance. Yes, there was a lot of fun and laughter throughout the weekend, but underlying the whole event was a tangible depth of fellowship with each other and with the Lord. Words we sang together at one of the worship times were true for us and, we hope, for all who were there, Jesus, be my vision, Be my path, my guide, Jesus. Jesus, be the centre, be the source, be my light, Jesus.

I have never been on an organised church trip before and I was slightly apprehensive about the Parish Weekend. I need not have worried. Everything was well organised and the atmosphere was one of camaraderie and humour. I made new friends and learned a lot. The hotel was comfortable, the staff helpful, and the food excellent. If another such weekend is organised in the future, I will definitely be going.

For me the Parish Weekend can be summed up in one word-sharing. We shared our stories, we shared our journeys of Faith, we shared laughter and tears, and we shared our concerns and our visions of hope. We shared the Eucharist together and what became apparent; we were sharing and receiving God’s love.

It was very good to be away for a few days with our St John’s neighbours, - to worship together, to reflect upon the scriptures together, and to get to know each other better. Thank you to all who planned and organized the weekend, - for being so thorough in meeting our every need (not least the large print name badges!), - also thank you to the hotel staff who contributed to the friendly and comfortable atmosphere of the hotel. To sum up…. sweeties on our beds on arrival, a red rose at the meal table on Valentine’s Day, excellent food, good company and plenty of time for walks in the sunshine along the beach… all made for a very enjoyable brief sojourn at the Ocean View Hotel in Bournemouth.
